Day Shift starring Jaime Foxx

"Day Shift" is a new vampire hunting movie starring Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco. The movie tells the story of a blue collar dad trying to provide a better life for his young daughter. However, his routine job in San Fernando Valley pool cleaning is a disguise for his true income, hunting down and killing vampires as part of an International Union of Viper Hunters.

The premise sounds exciting, but can J.J. Perry deliver on it?

Jamie Foxx shoots at an old lady who turns up to be a vamp in the opening scene of Day Shift. This leads to a hilarious fight between the two of them. This movie has a great deal of fun with rag-doll action scenes. It makes those scenes pop in a different way than many of the action blockbusters or Netflix movies. When you watch a scene like this, it is easy to remember the old saying "action speaks louder that words", and while I agree with the statement, I think the key to "Day Shift's" success is the way it uses dialogue and action to develop the characters and further the plot. Jamie Foxx's character kills the vampire. He then has a funny, dry conversation with his partner about how he believed she would become a bat or other animal. Moments like these are what elevate "Day Shift," above similar movies.

Day Shift is the kind of movie that's so bad it's good. It is clear what they were trying and yet they fail so badly. The acting is wooden, the dialogue is stilted, and the plot is full of holes. It was enjoyable, though. Maybe it's because it was vampire movies I love, or maybe it is because I just like bad movies. Either way, I had a good time watching Day Shift. Although it's not a great film, it's still a lot fun. This is what I really want in a movie.

Day Shift was an interesting movie. On one hand, there is a lot of fun action scenes and some fun characters (the two brothers and Seth), but on the other hand the villain was horrible, a lot of mediocre characters, though I guess that helps the better characters shine even more. There seemed to be missing scenes that were cut. Bud's neighbor acts like they're friends, even though before the final scene she maybe had 3 minutes of screen time. Bud started making prank phone call after she got to work at the gas station. This was the best part of the movie. It was hilarious, and I loved watching it. But then the rest of the movie happened, and it wasn't nearly as good. Day Shift has (view source) a mixed record. There are good parts, and there are bad parts. However, if you want to have some fun, there are better movies than this one.

Snoop dogg was something I almost forgot to mention. He's amazing in Day Shift. The whole movie is worth it because of him. I mean, his character is hilarious, and he has some great lines. But he is also so natural in his role. It's almost as if he was meant to do it.
